The Appeal Court on Thursday upheld the Criminal Court's six-year jail sentence given to a computer programmer found guilty of posting lese majeste content on a Facebook page in 2013. Piya Julkittiphan, now 47, was convicted by the Criminal Court on Jan 19, 2016 of spreading content deemed insulting the royal family in violation of Section 112 of the Criminal Code and also the Computer Crime Act. The court initially sentenced him to nine years in jail, and then reduce it by one-third to six years because his testimony during the trial was deemed helpful. Mr Piya took the case to the Appeal Court, which on Thursday upheld the sentence. Mr Piya was brought from the Bangkok Remand Prison to the court to hear the ruling, and then returned to prison.
